In electric vehicles as also for grid-level storage, Li-ion batteries are most prevalent and are economical from long term point of view. These are also ideal in today’s mobile phones. Moreover, Li-ion batteries have been accepted the world over for these applications due to their energy density, temperature range, fast charging time, and size/weight.
Many cameras go for NiCd batteries. Also, For short term power requirements, where a total amount of storage is not so much necessary as power delivery, ultracapacitors are the ideal choice.
So look for specific applications for a proper choice for energy storage.
